The former Miss California USA, who was dethroned last month, took to the microphone for Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego on Wednesday, performing a song for the horseracing fans.

Grinning from ear to ear, the blonde, who hails from San Diego, belted out the first few lines of the Bing Crosby classic, “Where The Turf Meets The Surf,” despite the shouts of a handful of hecklers.

Prejean may not have a spot on “American Idol” in her future after hitting a couple of bum notes during her performance, but the dethroned beauty queen seemed to enjoy the moment, smiling and waving to the crowd.

She also mingled with celebrities at the event including Wilmer Valderrama. “Hills” star Audrina Patridge also attended the event.

Carrie Prejean - Prejean will tell all; Emma Watson picks BrownRegnery Publishing announced this week that it has signed dethroned Miss California Carrie Prejean to a book deal. Her book, titled “Still Standing,” will give her side of the mayhem that ensued after the infamous answer she gave at the Miss USA pageant concerning gay marriage.

The publisher says the book will address: What happened behind the scenes at the pageant, why she answered Perez Hilton’s question the way she did and what really led to her losing the Miss California crown.

I think we already know the answer to that last question. She got fired because she didn’t do her job as Miss California. Prejean claims the firing was a setup. And so, the pot is stirred again. The book comes out in November. Storming the Weather Channel.

Carrie Prejean Lost Crown But Gained a Book DealFormer beauty queen Carrie Prejean has nabbed herself a book deal, according to the AP. The conservative book house Regnery Publishing announced Monday that it will release her memoir "Still Standing" which will reveal the dethroned Miss California's side of the story from her controversial pageant answer to her de-crowning.

During the Miss USA pageant earlier this year, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton asked Prejean what she thought of legalizing gay marriage in every U.S. state. She replied that she thinks marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Carrie Prejean lands a book deal

July 22, 2009 |12:13 | Gossips  By : Team X

Carrie Prejean lands a book dealCarrie Prejean, who was recently fired as Miss California after a controversy-plagued tenure, has just inked a deal to publish her memoirs. The book will be called Still Standing and will be published by Regnery Publishing.

This announcement was all but inevitable given the amount of attention Prejean, a San Diego native, has received in recent months. She first grabbed headlines in April when she finished as the runner-up at the Miss USA pageant. During the question and answer portion of the pageant, she stated her opposition to same-sex marriage, in the process coining the new term of "opposite marriage." This led to a very public flap with gossip blogger Perez Hilton who had asked her the question.

In the ensuing months, Prejean willingly became the face of the anti-marriage equality movement. She made several public appearances where she extolled the virtues of opposite marriage and she filmed a commercial for controversial anti-gay group National Organization for Marriage. While out supporting opposite marriage, Prejean apparently neglected many of her duties as the reigning Miss California, according to pageant Executive Director Keith Lewis. Eventually, pageant owner Donald Trump fired Prejean for neglecting her job responsibilities.

Carrie Prejean Out to Prove She Has the Write Stuff

July 22, 2009 |11:40 | Gossips  By : Team X

Carrie Prejean Out to Prove She Has the Write StuffCarrie Prejean is writing a book, and it has nothing to do with learning how to give the perfect beauty queen wave.

Ultraconservative publishing house Regnery Publishing announced yesterday that it has inked a deal with the dethroned Miss California for her first book, Still Standing. So what will it be about? And will Prejean actually write it herself?

The 22-year-old former lingerie model will rehash the gay marriage controversy that eventually left her tiara-less but a superstar of the right wing. "It's not a book about gay marriage," Regnery president and publisher Marji Ross told me earlier today.

"It's not a book about traditional marriage...She wanted to write a book about freedom of speech and.

The double standard that seems to exist when someone speaks their mind and doesn't happen to be politically correct or consistent with what a crazy Hollywood celebrity thinks is the right answer."

Ross insists Prejean will not have a ghostwriter. "It's not one of these things where she's only the face and it's not her words,". She said. "She's writing it." With an initial print run of about 100,000, Still Standing will be released in November.

Carrie Prejean: beauty contestant, Dove Awards presenter, and book author

Carrie Prejean: beauty contestant, Dove Awards presenter, and bookFormer Miss California Carrie Prejean received a standing ovation at the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards in Nashville this past April when she came out to introduce a performance of “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me. Carrie Prejean had just become a household name for her response to Perez Hilton's agenda-driven question about gay marriage at the Miss USA Pageant.

Although Prejean did not speak about her controversial pageant answer during the Dove Awards show, backstage she told me she had not meant to offend anyone but felt she needed to be truthful about her stand adding, “You have to stay true to your beliefs.” The tables were turned on the gospel artists backstage at the Dove Awards; instead of people trying to have their picture snapped with the artists, musical celebrities and Dove Award winners like Brandon Heath were lining up to have their photos taken with Miss California Carrie Prejean.
